Models and simulation techniques from stochastic geometry

چکیده

Stochastic geometry is the study of random patterns, whether of points, line segments, or objects. This course will introduce some key concepts and simulation techniques, and illustrate their use in applications. What follows is a brief overview of the course, which it is hoped will be useful orientation. We will focus on probabilistic aspects; this course is planned to be complementary to that of Prof. Møller next week, which will emphasize the statistical side of the story. The lectures will begin at a somewhat basic level, discussing fundamental concepts and ideas. As the lectures progress, this earlier material will be used to expound more recent research. However even the first lecture will refer to recent results. Here is some related general reading (other useful references are mentioned throughout the text):1 Stoyan et al. (1995) is a general reference to stochastic geometry. Barndorff-Nielsen et al. (1999) is a volume of expository essays treating more recent developments. See also the forthcoming monograph of Møller and Waagepetersen (2003) and the recent expository essays edited by Møller (2003).

Modeling and Evaluation of Stochastic Discrete-Event Systems with RayLang Formalism

In recent years, formal methods have been used as an important tool for performance evaluation and verification of a wide range of systems. In the view points of engineers and practitioners, however, there are still some major difficulties in using formal methods. In this paper, we introduce a new formal modeling language to fill the gaps between object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs) us...

Development of a regional attenuation relationship for Alborz, Iran

New attenuation relationships for rock and soil in Alborz, have been developed in this study. When the quantity of usable ground-motion data is inadequate in the magnitude and distance ranges, development of an empirical prediction equation is deficient. Due to lack of data, the two well-known simulation techniques, point source and finite-fault models have been used to generate more than ten t...

Stochastic analysis of two adjacent structures subjected to structural pounding under earthquake excitation

Seismic pounding occurs as a result of lateral vibration and insufficient separation distance between two adjacent structures during earthquake excitation. This research aims to evaluate the stochastic behavior of adjacent structures with equal heights under earthquake-induced pounding. For this purpose, many stochastic analyses through comprehensive numerical simulations are carried out. About...

Simulation and Prediction of Wind Speeds: A Neural Network for Weibull

Abstract. Wind as a resource of renewable energy has obtained an important share of the energy market already. Therefore simulation and prediction of wind speeds is essential for both, for engineers and energy traders. In this paper we analyze the surface wind speed data from three prototypic locations: coastal region (Rotterdam), undulating forest landscape few 100 m above sea level(Kassel), ...

Joint Bayesian Stochastic Inversion of Well Logs and Seismic Data for Volumetric Uncertainty Analysis

Here in, an application of a new seismic inversion algorithm in one of Iran’s oilfields is described. Stochastic (geostatistical) seismic inversion, as a complementary method to deterministic inversion, is perceived as contribution combination of geostatistics and seismic inversion algorithm. This method integrates information from different data sources with different scales, as prior informat...
